A project for the Season of Growth: new crochet pattern launch!
As the Northern Hemisphere shifts into Spring, Silvan Echoes captures the very moment life begins to stir after a long winter sleep. The name “Silvan” comes from the Latin silva (meaning wood or forest). Much like a sound echoing through a quiet forest, these textured stitches start in the centre and ripple outward through 3 distinct CAL parts and difficulty levels.
For those who follow the natural rhythms of the year, this pattern serves as a grounding, meditative practice. Each round builds a layer of organic texture, turning yarn into a beautiful design for your home.
How the CAL Works
The Silvan Echoes crochet pattern grows from a doily shown here into a cushion, and finally into a small rug or a medallion blanket. This CAL is designed so you pay only once and decide where you want to stop.
The three stages of growth in Spring:

Part 1: The Heartwood (Doily shown here) in March-April 2026.

Yarn & Hook
The beauty of Silvan Echoes lies in its organic movement and stitch definition.

Recommended yarn: Cotton, cotton/acrylic blends, or high-quality acrylic in a solid color. Avoid highly variegated yarns, as they will hide the outstanding stitches.

Yarn weight used: Sport / Fine (USA) / 5-ply (UK).
- Yardage requirements depending on the size of your project:

Doily (Rounds 1-19): 130 yds (120 m), diameter: 10’’ = 25.5 cm.

Cushion (both sides, Rounds 19-40): 1040 yds (950 m), diameter: 17.7’’ = 45 cm.

Small Rug/Medallion (final rounds): 1200 yds (1100 m), diameter: 28’’ = 71 cm.

- You may check gauge if you wish to match the same stitch size and yarn usage; otherwise, use a hook recommended for your yarn as your main hook, and a hook 1 mm smaller for the first rounds. 3 and 4 mm hooks were used in the sample shown
- For a larger rug, use a thicker wool/acrylic blend and a larger hook.

Why Blocking of Cushion and Rug/Blanket is mandatory
Because this is a dense, highly textured piece using post-stitches, the fabric may look slightly wavy or bulging in some rounds. Blocking relaxes the stitches, allowing this design to lay flat and letting the leaves reach their full height. How to Block:

Submerge your piece in lukewarm water with a delicate detergent for 10–15 minutes. Gently press out excess water between two towels (do not wring).

Lay the piece on a flat, padded surface. Stretch each of the six sides of the hexagon, moving from the outer rounds toward the centre, then back out to flatten the leaves.

Pin the outer edges. If the piece doesn’t lay flat, you haven’t pulled the stitches far enough.

Allow it to air-dry completely.

Warning: Do not touch the iron to the yarn, or you will melt the beautiful 3D relief of the stitches!
More details about the size of the cushion and choosing colours for your interior:
► You can stop crocheting as soon as your work reaches the size of your cushion.
► There is a classic decor rule, which states that 60 percent of the room should be a dominant color, 30 percent should be a secondary color or texture, and 10 percent should be an accent.
- 60% Main (dominant) Color. This includes the color of walls and floor, and may include a piece of furniture, curtains or draperies. All of these don’t necessarily need to be solid colors, but the main color should always be prominent.
- 30% Secondary Color (half the amount of color saturation as the main color). This color should contrast with the main color and create depth and interest in your décor.
- 10% Accent Color (one-third of the secondary color and one-sixth of the main color). The idea of an accent is to create contrast, add greater interest to your color scheme. It should be used throughout the décor to draw the eye deeper into the room design.
