Made from wool, this cold-season cowl is sublime in its irreducible simplicity. Shown here in blue-brown color palette, the piece will be a perfect partner to monochromatic sweaters and jackets and create a fashionable and contemporary urban look. You will like to improvise and create a new design everyday by turning the reverse side out and showing a bit of texture and stripes for a dose of effortless cold weather chic.

Hook: 2 mm or other to obtain gauge; additional hook 2.5 mm for foundation chain.
Abbreviations in American crochet terms:
st(s) – stitch(es),
hdc – half double crochet,
dc – double crochet,
WS – wrong side,
RS – right side,
BL – the stitch is worked into back loop,
FL – the stitch is worked into front loop,
* – repeat stitches from * to *,
ch – chain(s),
popcorn st – work 5 dc in specified st, take the hook out, insert it through the top of first made dc and into loose loop of last dc, grab the loop and pull it through this first dc.
Gauge: the width of 28 hdc sts is 10 cm = 4’’.
While gauge is not crucial for this project, the finished size and yarn usage will be affected by any differences.
COWL
one size fits most:
circumference 56 cm = 22’’; stretchable to 60 cm = 23.6’’ all around
length from top to bottom 19 cm = 7.1’’
This project is worked in the round.
With a slightly bigger hook (2.5 mm in the sample shown) and yarn A chain 156, the loop on the hook does not count. The length of this chain should be big enough to go over your head, the number of chains is a multiple of 6. Join last st with slip st into a ring, be sure not to twist the foundation chain. Continue working with hook you obtained gauge.
Round 1 (RS): 2 ch (count as 1st hdc), 1 hdc into BL of each st (= 156 hdc), finish with slip st in 2nd ch in the beginning of the Round, turn to work next Round in the opposite direction.
Round 2 (WS; replace 1st hdc with 2 ch): *1 hdc in FL of 26 sts, 1 dc in FL of next 26 sts*, repeat from * around (= 156 sts), finish with slip st in 2nd ch in the beginning of the Round, turn.
Rounds 3 and 5 (RS): work as Round 1.
Rounds 4 and 6 (WS): 2 turning ch (count as 1st hdc), 1 hdc in FL of each st (= 156 hdc), finish with slip st in 2nd ch in the beginning of the Round, turn.
Cut and fasten off yarn A after completing 6 rounds, continue working with yarn B.
Round 7 (RS; replace 1st hdc with 2 ch): *1 hdc in BL of 5 sts, popcorn st in both loops of next st*, repeat from * around (= 156 sts), finish with slip st in 2nd ch in the beginning of the Round, turn.
Round 8 (WS; replace 1st hdc with 2 ch): *1 hdc in popcorn st, 1 hdc in FL of next 5 sts*, repeat from * around (= 156 sts), finish with slip st in 2nd ch in the beginning of the Round, turn.
Rounds 9 and 11 (RS): work as Round 1.
Round 10 (WS; replace 1st dc with 3 ch): *1 dc in FL of 26 sts, 1 hdc in FL of next 26 sts*, repeat from * around (= 156 sts), finish with slip st in 3rd ch in the beginning of the Round, turn.
