Tester Call – Sleeveless Crochet Top (Sizes XS–4XL).
Please share this post with friends who might love to crochet this top.
First, a huge THANK YOU for all the love and support you’ve shown my wrap cardigan pattern published last week! Today, I’d love to invite crocheters – especially intermediate and adventurous beginners – to help me test this stylish, minimalistic, SLEEVELESS crochet top using the same stitches from my wrap cardigan’s body.
As usual, I’m calling for testers while my own sample is still in progress, but the main design details are ready for you to see. My top has a light, slightly sheer fabric, in this photo I wear it without underwear for reference:
Who I’m looking for:
-
Motivated crocheters who love making garments and have the patience to finish them.
-
Sizes XS–4XL (bust 72-146 cm = 28.5-57.6″).
-
You have at least one finished garment in your size on Ravelry (a huge help will be if you share photos/videos of your finished garments on your social networks like Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok etc).
-
Plus-size testers are especially encouraged to apply – petite sizes are usually easier to fill. This time I don’t have too many reliable testers in plus sizes whom I can send direct messages to as I usually do.
I created this crochet pattern in two versions for sizes XS-4XL:
A: For specific gauge that you need to obtain and then follow the stated number of stitches and rows for your size. In this version you can use crochet threads 5 or 10 with the length 400-560 meters per 100 gr weight.
B: For recommended yarn weight without specific gauge (made to measure). Here you can use Fingering or Light Fingering yarn weight and create a stitch definition you like. Recommended yarns for version B:
- Cotton or linen blends in Fingering weight or Light Fingering weight (eg. Scheepjes Whirl or alike with the length 400-450 meters per 100 gr weight).
- Wool or wool/acrylic blends in Light Fingering weight (eg. Woolike Loops & Threads or other wool with the length 500-620 meters per 100 gr weight).
Just let me know your preferences – whether you wish to follow gauge-based pattern A or made to measure pattern B.
Approx. yardage for the top 45 cm = 17.7’’long:
From 1000 yards for the size XS to 2000 yards for the size 4XL. You can create a stripy top with different shades of the same yarn brand. Please make sure you have enough yarn before agreeing to test (without waiting for yarn delivery). If you can receive yarn within 3-4 days, I will send the PDF after your yarn arrives.
Hook size depends on your tension. I consider myself neither a tight nor loose crocheter, so I use 2-2.5mm hooks for recommended yarns. Otherwise you can try to crochet with the hook size recommended by your yarn producer.
Test details:
-
Pattern: All testers will receive written instructions in American crochet terms for their bust measurements. This test will be done in 2 parts (each supported by a video, step-by-step instructions, and photos). No charts will be included into the test version to prevent resharing but all my published paid patterns have colourful HQ crochet charts. It’s possible to translate this top into British crochet terms, but all videos will remain in American crochet terms.
- Level: intermediate and advanced beginner.
-
Duration: 5 weeks.
-
Part 1: Complete within 2 weeks (August 25th, the sooner, the better). When part 1 is completed please take photo of it and post on Ravelry or send me photo (s) showing your result so I can send you part 2. If you haven’t finished part 1 by the end of August, you will not receive next part and participate in our future tests.
-
Part 2: Complete within the next 2 weeks (September 8th, the sooner, the better).
-
Washing, taking final photos and posting them on Ravelry: 1 week (until September 15th-16th). You are most welcome to post photos of your top on your social networks. Test is finished after you have posted photos of your finished top on Ravelry and linked your project to this pattern.
-
-
Deadline for your finished and photographed top: September 17th (my 50th birthday 🎉) – I aim to publish this pattern on Ravelry, Etsy and my website on September 16th. I kindly ask you not to apply if you are not sure in your time availability – it will be disappointing if you disappear or write excuses. I respect punctual people who meet deadlines and keep their promises until they’ve proven the different and hope you share my values too.
-
Allowed modifications: Adjust the length (crop top or hip length) and choose any yarn within the recommended weight (check yarn weights here). Sleeves are not included into this test, but you can add them on your own after the deadline.
-
My writing style: I list stitch counts first, then stitch type: 2 ch, 1 sc in 1 dc. Some designers describe the same stitches the other way round (ch2, sc1 in dc) and I kindly ask you not to change my way :).
Skill requirements (in American crochet terms):
-
Confident with: chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, slip stitch.
- 2 double crochets joined together at the top – I call them clusters for shortness www.redheart.com/learn/articles/how-crochet-clusters. There are bloggers who call 3 dc worked in 1 stitch a cluster, but that leads to huge misunderstanding among beginners in my opinion.
-
Helpful but not required: chainless single crochet foundation (shown in my video).
To apply, please Include:
- Photo of your yarn (preferably from your stash).
- Your bust measurement within the range 72-146 cm = 28.5’’-57.6’’, your height, and desired length of this sleeveless top.
- What version A–gauge based or B–made to measure you want to follow. You will receive one version for your chosen size. For the A-version I’ll ask you to crochet gauge, wash and take photo of it.
- How many hours a day you can crochet.
- Your Ravelry account with at least one finished garment in your size (or photo/video of your finished garment(s) on Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok etc).
- You agree to include photo(s) of your completed project on Ravelry by the middle of September 2025 and state used yarn and hook. Please link your project to the published pattern within 2 days after receiving respective note from conceptcreative.store.
