Knit Sweater
Sizes M-L with bust measured 94-102 cm = 37-40’’ (it still fits women with bust up to 114 cm = 45’’; however it will be tight fitting).
Recommended yarn: 100 % wool
Yarn weight: DK / 8 ply / 177 m in 100 gr / 193 yards in 3.5 oz
Examples:
Total yarn usage for sizes M-L: 1500 yards (1370 meters)
Needles: 2.5 mm or others to obtain gauge. Rib can be worked with smaller 2 mm needles if you prefer a tighter rib.
Abbreviations: st(s) – stitch (es).
Gauge 24 sts x 31 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4’’) in stockinette sts.
BACK:
Cast on 120 sts, work 2×2 rib sts with 2-mm needles.
Row 1: slip 1st edge st, then alternate [2 knit sts, 2 purl sts], knit 3rd and 2nd sts from the end, purl last edge st.
Work 2×2 rib as the sts present themselves. After completing 8 cm = 3.2’’ (25 rows) continue working with 2.5-mm needles as shown in the diagram 1 (all diagrams are included into PDF).
Complete rows 1-18 once, then repeat rows 3-18 constantly.
Shape the armholes at the height of 35.5 cm = 14’’ and after completing row 12: bind off 3 sts on both sides, then continue working the same pattern straight.
Upper part of the back (shoulders and collar) work as shown in the diagram 2: at the height of 53 cm = 20.9’’ and after completing row 12 of the pattern bind off 5 sts on both sides, in rows 13-18 and 3-10 of the pattern bind off sts at edges as shown. In row 11 of the pattern bind off the sts at edges as shown, then work 51 sts in each row straight, in the centre only (these central sts will make collar).
Complete rows 12-18 once, 3-18 once, 3-6 once (27 collar rows), then work 4 rows with 2×2 rib sts and finish – bind sts wrong side facing trying not to tighten the edge row.
FRONT:
Work the same way as described for the back up to shoulders.
Upper part of the front (shoulders and collar) work as shown in the diagram 3: at the height of 50.5 cm = 19.9’’ and after completing row 4 of the pattern bind off 5 sts on both sides, in rows 5-18 of the pattern bind off sts at edges as shown. In row 3 of the pattern bind off sts at edges as shown, then work 51 sts in each row straight, in the centre only (these central sts will make collar).
Complete rows 4-18 once, 3-14 once (27 collar rows), then work 4 rows with 2×2 rib sts and finish – bind sts wrong side facing trying not to tighten the edge row.
Sew shoulder and side seams.
SLEEVES (make two):
Cast on 80 sts, work 2×2 rib sts with 2-mm needles.
Row 1: slip 1st edge st, then alternate [2 knit sts, 2 purl sts], knit 3rd and 2nd sts from the end, purl last edge st.
Work 2×2 rib as the sts present themselves. After completing 8 cm = 3.2’’ (25 rows) continue working with 2.5-mm needles as shown in the diagram 4.
Complete rows 1-20 once, then repeat rows 5-20 constantly until sleeve reaches 52 cm = 20.5’’ or at the comfortable lengths for your arms.
Then follow the diagram 5: bind off sts in the beginning and in the end of row 14; in rows 15-20 and 5-11 of the pattern bind off sts at edges. After completing row 11 of the pattern bind off sts in row 12 (wrong side facing). Diagram 6 is included in case you wish to start decreasing sts in sleeves after completing row 6.
Set in sleeves.
